3 Winter-Inspired Wedding Ideas

The wedding season is well and truly upon us, just in time for winter!

Or is it the other way around?

Whatever the season may be, the time is perfect for some fun and festivities in the most magical surroundings. But how do you take advantage of the winter wonderland for your wedding photographs?

Here are five ideas I personally love!

3 Inspirational Winter Wedding Photo Ideas

1. Modern Romance

You don’t need snow for a winter themed wedding. Instead, what couples in Dallas do is bring out that starkness and contrast against the crisp chilly winter by using dark, luscious colors and beautiful modern settings. Usually, these weddings are staged outdoors, under the winter sun. Brides wear modern, chic full sleeve dresses and men wear sharp simple tuxedos, although I’ve seen many rock bowties as well!

2. Soft and Subtle

Another winter wedding style I love is the soft and utterly romantic style wedding. Set in whimsical, minimalist surroundings, this wedding theme is more about offering a comfy, cozy setting for the couple and their guests. And for a wedding photographer, that’s the best setting. There’s nothing better than a loved-up couple who are at ease with everything and everyone around them. Usually, the setting for such weddings is neutral and soft. Though, some brides use mauve or mahogany to bring out that splash of color to their overall look.

3. Rustic winter

This is the easiest theme, and the most effective. Texas doesn’t usually get snow here but we do get our fair share of winter and its accompanying beauty; that sets up the venue perfectly for a rustic themed wedding. The rustic feel is usually created with fir foliage, log slices and an overall woodland ambiance, along with which is an abundance of candles for that low mood lighting and a touch of that perfect sparkle.

Photographing a Winter Wedding

Winter weddings usually revolve around snow, and its crisp beauty.

However, since we Texans don’t usually enjoy snow, we make the most of what we have. And the results are indeed breathtaking.

As a Dallas wedding photographer whose worked on countless weddings in the last four years or more, I’ve come across my fair share of winter wedding themes, many of which have revolved around the above three ideas. And all have paid off by producing some truly beautiful and classic photographs.
