5 Photography Tips from a Model to a Shy Bride-to-Be

Wedding photography is not fun for a shy bride.

All the attention—while endearing—can make you feel more like a deer-in-the-headlights. But this time, you’re determined to look gorgeous in your photographs, especially since these pictures will capture one of the happiest days of your life.

We asked a model to provide us with some tips on photography and what she does to strike that perfect pose!

Flawless Wedding Photography Tips

1. Focus on the Connection, Not the Pose

When the photographer directs you to look this way and that, don’t concentrate on whether you have a double chin, whether that tiny belly pooch is showing or if your hands look awkward. If it all does seem so, your photographer will tell you.

Instead; breathe. Relax and push your shoulders down from your ears.

A lot of brides become stiff as soon as the camera lens turns towards them. Rather than focusing on it, turn to your partner. Talk to them, sneak in a kiss or a revisit a memory and laugh. Concentrate on the emotion, not the direction your photographer wants to see in the picture.

2. Stand Up Straight

A straight spine makes you look sleeker and more graceful. Elongate that back and roll your shoulders to remove some of that stiffness. Before putting on that wedding dress, stretch your arms and the muscles of your back.

Another useful tip, when standing straight; don’t push your chest forward. This puts a strain on your muscles and gives you that twinge of pain. Line up your shoulders with your hips. You’ll feel relaxed.

3. Substitute Fidgeting for Playing

As a shy bride, you will have the need to fidget with something to ward off that awkwardness. Put it to good use. Fiddle with one of your earnings, straighten your dress, gently touch your hair; make subtle movements as your photographer snaps away.

When standing with your partner, hold their hand, play with their fingers or simply talk to them.

For added creativity, bring props and interact with them. Keep your mind distracted and your hands busy.

4. Laugh

The camera loves a good smile.

Even for a professional model, there are moments where they interact with other fellow models, laugh and talk. And that brings out an inner glow that’s takes the picture to a whole new level.

When standing with your partner, whisper something to them and talk about this wonderful moment, how amazing it is that you’re both together and you’re going to spend your days together. Bring that emotion out and reminisce about the happy days, how you prepared for the wedding.

Converse and laugh. It makes all the difference.

5. The Right Photographer Counts

The photographer has to be an individual who understands your reluctance. They should also know how to bring you out of that awkwardness.

A good photographer will do their best to make you feel happy and comfortable, even if it means talking to you beforehand about your fears and what you think you’ll look like in photographs. The right wedding photographer will give that a priority.
