Questions You Should Ask Your Wedding Photographer – Part II

When it comes to weddings, there’s no such thing as asking too many questions!

It’s the big day, after all; the one you’ve always dreamed of! From picking the right dress to choosing the perfect venue—the closer you get to the date, the more concerns you’re bound to have.

At the end of the day, your internal monologue is littered with more question marks than periods, and that’s okay—because it shows how special and rare this moment really is!

In our last post, we talked about the importance of getting to know your wedding photographer, and asking important questions that are likely to influence your photo shoot.

In this one, we’re going to talk about asking questions that may not occur to you on first thought—questions that are more technical, and allow you to create an album that’s exceptional and unique!

Diving Into Details

We’ve all seen those generic, albeit heartwarming shots of the couple holding hands, gazing longingly into each other’s eyes—which are sweet, no doubt, but forgettable all the same. And then there are those brazenly cringe-worthy shots of the bride, clearly being instructed to pose at less-than-flattering angle.

You’re the bride-to-be, finally getting to live your fairytale wedding! Don’t settle for anything less than what you deserve, and communicate with your photographer, prior to the date!

Unplanned photo shoots are a recipe for disaster, which can easily be avoided with a little emphasis on communication. Asking questions can help you get a better understanding of what to expect from your album, and give your wedding photographer a clear idea of what to deliver.

Burdened with too many responsibilities? Note down the questions beforehand, and don’t skimp on the details!

1. Have you shot at my wedding venue before? If not, would you be willing to check it out before the date?

Your wedding venue isn’t just a place you’re getting married; it’s a memorable location that will forever be associated with the day you sealed your vows. Think of it as the background to a climactic scene in a film—a scene that remains engrained in your mind because of the aesthetic beauty of the location. Much of that beauty comes from knowing how to capture a particular location on camera.

2. How long will it take to receive proofs of the photographs?

Often, couples are so busy posing and dancing, that they forget to ask their photographers the main question—when can we expect the photographs? This can be frustrating, especially if your photographer takes time with color adjustments and retouching. Don’t assume—ask! You’ll thank us later.

3. Would you stay if the wedding goes on longer than expected?

Some weddings tend to go on longer than expected, and this can be wonderful—if only someone’s there to capture the whole affair! Request your wedding photographer to stay after hours, and ask if additional charges apply.

I’m a Dallas wedding photographer who loves weddings about as much as my camera!

I find that the best photographs are the ones that capture the soul of the moment. And this is much easier to achieve with a detailed conversation with the bride or groom prior to the wedding!
