Engagement Photoshoot: What to Wear

Engagement photo sessions are usually the first time you get to work with your photographer and warm-up in front of the camera before the big day! Although this can be super-exciting, it does make couples a little nervous about how to pose, what to do, and, most importantly, what to wear.

These photos will appear on your save-the-date, the walls of your home and social media. Hence, choosing the right outfit is essential. Before you hit the mall to shop, let me guide you, based on my experience with engagement photoshoots:

  1. Be confident and comfortable.

The whole idea behind an engagement photoshoot is to capture who you are individually and as a couple. It’s a chance to showcase your couple personality, picking an outfit that isn’t you will make you and your partner uncomfortable and will show in the pictures. The outfit you choose will set the mood and influence how the photographer shoots you. Make sure your outfit is easy to move and comfortable, it’ll make you feel relaxed, and your confidence will make you gleam!

  1. Coordinate and compliment.

One key thing to remember while choosing your engagement photoshoot outfits is that your partner and you don’t have to match. We suggest going for colors that complement each other, like turquoise and white. This helps bring a sense of variation and illuminates the energy between a couple.

Picking your outfits together will help; the colors can be put together to get the best possible results. Talk to your fiancé and see what their favorite outfits are for you and what colors they have in mind. Matching pop colors is an absolute no, remember, as a couple you both should complement each other outfit-wise too!

  1. Accessorize!

Accessories are the best way to add that extra sparkle. Things like jewelry, a stylish scarf can add oomph to your look, as it can tell more of your story. Although they’re extremely easy to slip on and carry, avoid going overboard.

For ladies, two accessories per outfit and one for the men. This will add more visual interest and reflect their personalities. If accessories aren’t your thing, you don’t have to force it. Always revert to tip #1, i.e., be yourself.

  1. Bring at least two outfits.

When you can’t decide between casual and formal, bring both! Your engagement photoshoot isn’t like your wedding one; outfit changes are allowed. It’ll give you a variety of pictures. Couples usually start with casual to get more relaxed to the idea of a photoshoot and then build it up with more high-fashion styles. This way, they get a mix of classy and casual. If you don’t want to change mid-shoot, you can even opt for layers if the weather allows; this too adds significant variation and can be extremely convenient.
