Planning an Autumn Wedding – A Photographer’s Perspective

Sure, wedding planning might not be a wedding photographer’s forte. But this doesn’t mean we don’t know anything!

As photographers, we have that special eye for beauty that allows us to take exquisite photos. And that’s something essential for an autumn wedding.

Why?

Mainly because autumn weddings are personal favorites for many photographers!

You have the gorgeous, warm hue of the outdoor foliage, the crisp weather giving you that cozy vibe and the overall element of magic in the air. In short, you have everything you need for a whimsical, beautiful wedding. All you have to do is bring all those elements together. And we can tell you how!

Autumn Wedding Preparation Tips

Don’t Stray from the Natural Color Palette

Instead, use just one color (or shades of it), and create a romantic palette. For example, with an indoor wedding, go for warmer shades like golden yellows or burnt oranges. For outdoor weddings, go with dark reds and maroons. To complement them, add a bit of ivory or pastel shades to bring out the sharpness of the colors. Also add burgundy, rose tones or purple.

Incorporate Fruits and Flowers

Here’s where the cozy aspect of autumn comes in. Use fruits and flowers, as well as greenery to add that splash of freshness to the décor. Or try something forest theme i.e. an aisle littered with green leaves, all the way to the altar.

Have Fun with Texture

You can never go wrong with textures for fall decorations. Use wool, wood, greenery – anything that adds character. Use textured paper for invitations, leaves and sprigs with napkins, fruits and flowers for centerpieces, anything you’d like.

Make it Romantic

Who knows, you might just be setting the mood for someone else!

Have soft lighting, or use candles to give it that special, ethereal glow. If you’re having an outdoor wedding, give your guests blankets or add a cozy corner at the venue so they can relax in the warmth.

Seasonal Seasonings

Fall is all about warm spices and comfort food. Take advantage of that. Add starters like vegetable soup, main dishes with protein such as chicken or turkey, and eggplant for the vegetarians out there. For dessert, go for carrot cakes or fruit cakes. As for drinks, add a specialty warm cocktail to the menu to warm up your guests. Or better yet, hot cocoa!

Dramatic and Lacy

With so much color and texture, you might either want to go very simple or very lacy with your wedding dress. We recommend lacy. Long-sleeve, lace trimmed, with a lace jacket or with a bridal cape – whatever you choose, make a statement with it.
