– What’s Your Style?
Most photographers combine their own unique touch with different styles of photography, so you may not get exactly what you need. Ask your photographer about their style, what they specialize in, and what you expect. Knowing your expectations will sway your photographer’s skills in a more favorable direction.
– How Many Weddings Have You Shot? Is there a Particular Time that’s best?
If you want professionally captured photographs, ask the photographer about their moments under pressure, and what they do if they run into a problem. Weddings don’t happen every day. Hire someone who knows how to handle weddings for a living, rather than a friend with an expensive DSLR.
– Will You Shoot in Both Black-and-White and Color?
These days, photographers do a mix of both styles. However, you can still ask beforehand so you have a sense of their style. This will give you a chance to know what your album will look like, and what the balance will be.
– How Many Hours of Coverage will I Get?
Instead of going over-budget with overtime, plan your hours accordingly and hire your photographer at hourly rates. This will save you from paying a ton later. Or, pay upfront for a more comprehensive package so there’s no issue with a massive overtime rate later on.
– When Will I see The Photos?
It’s important to manage your expectations with wedding photos. It can take some time to edit wedding photographs (there are so many of them). So while you may want to see your photos ASAP, have patience and let your photographer do their work.
– Should I Provide a Shot List? Do you have one? Or Will You Have Free Reign?
Most photographers are completely fine with a shot list from their clients. However, the list should not be a foot long. If you’re hiring a pro, keep in mind that you’re hiring them for their experience and eye for a great moment. Give them a short list of all the moments you need, and let them do their job.
