You’ve read horror stories about wedding photography, so you’re more than a little concerned.
From wild kids bumping into photographers to Uncle Bobs and Cousin Beckys ruining a shot of the bride and her father walking down the aisle, there are plenty of things that can go wrong in a wedding, which is why you’re worried that your photos might not come out the way you expect them to!
First,
Keep in mind that when you hire me, I will use all my skills to provide you with the most breathtaking selection of wedding photos you’ve ever seen!
Second, if you’re concerned about unruly wedding guests and the havoc they may bring, there are some things you can do about it.
The following are some etiquettes you might want to know about.
Mention them in conversation or write them on a chalkboard and make sure your guests follow them. Do what you can to make your wedding go as smoothly as possible. For your sake, as well as the future wedding album’s!
– Trust the Photographer
Although you might feel silly crooking your leg this way or that while you try to maintain a dreamy look, your picture will come out looking flawless. So if your photographer tells you to pose a certain way, be assured that it’s not because they’re trying to ruin your big day. Also, if you have any concerns about poses, book an engagement shoot so you can test run being in front of the camera beforehand.

– Tell Your Guests to Unplug and Behave
Here’s a list of rules you’ll need to be sure your guests follow during the wedding:
- Turn their phones silent during the wedding
- Turn the camera flash off
- Do not take any photos during big moments, i.e., processional, first kiss, vows, etc.
- Do not jostle for first position with the photographer when the bride walks down the aisle
- Do not tell the photographer how to do their work
While the last two are just general rules, they’re still crucial. Even as a professional, your photographer can only do so much. So if you have an Uncle Bob in your midst, it might do well to recite these rules (tastefully) to them so they remember.
– Be Ready to be Photographed During the Reception
Once the reception is underway, be warned that you’ll be bombarded with requests from friends telling you to look this way and that. And that may not allow your photographer to take pictures the way they intended to. Let your loved ones take their photos, then dedicate some time during the proceedings for private portraits.
– Let Us Know if Someone or Something Needs Special Treatment

We can’t predict what unique moments you want captured. So give us a heads up so we can be prepared, and provide us with a specific shot list if you have requirements.
Providing us with as much information as possible is not only beneficial for us, but it also lets you have a great time with the assurance that we’re taking care of everything else.
