Wedding Themes – Guiding Your Guests’ Fashion Choices

Your red carpet themed wedding is all planned out and you can’t wait to see your guests dressed to the nines. Yet, you know in your heart that somehow, the inevitable will happen.

Out of all your guests, you know there’s going to be that one person (or more, gasp!) that will wear a completely inappropriate outfit (read: not according to your wedding theme) and ruin the overall aesthetic of your wedding, thus making them stand out like a sore thumb in your wedding photos.

But how do you make sure that this doesn’t happen?

How to Make Sure Your Guests are fashionably Attired?

As your friendly neighborhood Dallas wedding photographer, I’ve been to my fair share of weddings where I’ve seen brides and grooms accomplish this with only a few small hints through their wedding invitations!

– Mention the Dress Code

It’s quite common nowadays to mention the dress code in the invitations. Whether your wedding is causal, black-tie or a whimsical party, mention the dress code and make it bold so this little detail is noticeable straightaway.

– Focus on the Location

When settling on a dress code, do consider the location so it’s easier for your guests to dress the right way. You don’t want your guests to feel out-of-place simply because you wanted them to wear black tie at a beach wedding.

– Add a Detail on Color

Your invitation should help you narrow down the color palette. A lot of the time, guests use the wedding invitations to get some insight on what theme they should follow. Make it easier for them by giving an invitation that would match your theme completely.

– Consider the Weather

Don’t expect your guests to follow your chosen theme of light and whimsy if you’re having an outdoor wedding in the winter. Know the forecast before you decide on a theme and attire. You want your guests to be comfortable during your event.

– Mention the Time of Day

Make it easier for your guests by having your wedding at a comfortable time of day. If you’re having a summer wedding, consider black tie and elegance for a night or evening event. If your wedding is an afternoon affair, choose a casual theme.

And lastly, don’t fret about it.

Keep in mind that this is your special day. And when all is said and done, if a guest or two come in wearing casual to your black tie event, it shouldn’t matter as much because the focus is on you as the guests of honor, and everyone knows it, your photographer included.

So don’t worry. As a professional, your wedding photographer will know exactly how to take photos so that you and your guests look perfect!
